Aluminum is lighter than copper per foot, so freight is less punishing on large reels, and full factory reels of common sizes are straightforward to evaluate from a photograph of the tag.

How we evaluate and price Aluminum Wire
Every reel is placed in one of two buckets before a number is attached to it. Resalable cable is priced per foot on type, size, continuous length, jacket condition, and documentation. Recovery material is priced by weight on a certified scale. You see the split, because a single averaged number hides the only decision that matters.
Continuous length is the biggest variable. A reel with a legible tag and an unbroken run is straightforward. A reel with no tag, a weathered jacket, and an unknown remainder is a different product, and we will say so rather than pretend otherwise.

- A wide shot showing how many reels are in the stack
- A photograph of the cut end, so the conductor and shield can be seen

Aluminum Wire buying questions
Do you buy aluminum wire as well as copper?
Yes. Aluminum is a large part of what we purchase, particularly SER, URD, and XHHW-2. Aluminum is priced on a different basis than copper because the conductor value per pound is lower, but resalable reels still sell well above scrap.
Can you buy aluminum wire with an unknown alloy?
We can, but the offer will reflect the uncertainty. If the jacket print shows AA-8000 or an equivalent alloy designation, the material is easier to place with a contractor or distributor and the offer improves.
Is old aluminum wire from the 1960s worth selling?
Small-branch aluminum wiring from that era is usually a recovery item rather than a resale item because of termination concerns. Larger feeder and service cable from the same period is evaluated on its own condition and markings.
What photographs help with an aluminum reel?
The reel tag, the jacket print showing type and size, the exposed conductor end, and a wide shot showing how many reels are in the stack.
