XHHW and XHHW-2 Wire Buyers in Ohio

We purchase surplus XHHW / XHHW-2 from contractors, plants, distributors, and utilities throughout Ohio. Written offers, pickup arranged.

Electrical wire and cable only · Statewide Ohio coverage

XHHW and XHHW-2 use cross-linked polyethylene insulation instead of PVC, which gives them a higher heat rating, better moisture performance, and a smaller diameter for the same conductor. That combination makes them standard stock in industrial and utility work across Ohio.

XHHW is rated 90 degrees Celsius dry and 75 degrees Celsius wet; XHHW-2 carries 90 degrees Celsius in both. The conductor is compact stranded copper or aluminum, and the insulation is often printed with the manufacturer, size, voltage, and a UL listing mark.

We buy XHHW-2 in copper and aluminum from 14 AWG through 1000 MCM, on full reels, partial reels, and cut lengths from plant maintenance stock.

How we evaluate and price XHHW / XHHW-2

Every reel is placed in one of two buckets before a number is attached to it. Resalable cable is priced per foot on type, size, continuous length, jacket condition, and documentation. Recovery material is priced by weight on a certified scale. You see the split, because a single averaged number hides the only decision that matters.

Continuous length is the biggest variable. A reel with a legible tag and an unbroken run is straightforward. A reel with no tag, a weathered jacket, and an unknown remainder is a different product, and we will say so rather than pretend otherwise.

What helps us quote accurately

  • A photograph of the reel tag showing length and manufacturer
  • A close-up of the print on the jacket: type, size, voltage, temperature rating
  • A wide shot showing how many reels are in the stack
  • A photograph of the cut end, so the conductor and shield can be seen
  • Storage history: indoors, outdoors, or in a wet area

Selling XHHW / XHHW-2 anywhere in Ohio

We buy in every county, from Cuyahoga and Franklin to the smaller counties in the southeast. There is no requirement to bring material to a yard, and we do not claim a local branch we do not have. What we do have is a straightforward process: photographs, a written offer, and a pickup that is scheduled around your operation.

If you are unsure whether your material fits this category, send it anyway. Misidentifying cable is common, and telling you that you have something more valuable than you thought is a good outcome for both of us.

Questions

XHHW / XHHW-2 buying questions

Why does XHHW sell for more than THHN of the same size?

Cross-linked polyethylene costs more to produce than PVC, and XHHW-2 carries a 90 degree wet rating. When the material is resalable, that difference is reflected in the offer.

Do you buy XHHW in colors other than black?

Yes. Black is the most common and the easiest to place, but brown, orange, yellow, and other colors are purchased, usually as part of a mixed lot.

Can XHHW be direct buried?

Single conductor XHHW is not a direct burial cable by itself. Direct burial requires a listed cable assembly such as USE-2 or URD. We still buy XHHW that was intended for underground conduit work.

What if the reel tag is missing?

We can work from the jacket print and a measured or estimated length. Without a tag the material is evaluated slightly more conservatively.

The process

How selling your surplus wire works

Four steps, no obligation, and a written offer before anything moves.

Send photographs and details

Reel tags, jacket print, a wide shot of the rack, and your best estimate of footage. A packing list helps if you have one.

Receive a written offer

We separate resalable cable from recovery material so you can see how the number was built.

Approve the terms

No obligation until you accept. If the offer does not work, you keep the material and we part on good terms.

Schedule pickup and payment

We coordinate loading and freight, and payment is made according to the agreed terms before material leaves.

Request a quote

Tell us what you have. Photographs of the reel tags and jacket print let us quote accurately the first time.
